the “college students will be college students” argument defending students being reckless around covid restrictions on campus is not rhetorically different from “boys will be boys” lol like actually young adults will be held responsible for their actions ❤ ur 18 in the middle of a global pandemic you know how to act. if you’re partying on campus fuck you!
“the university shouldn’t have opened in the first place” and “well, the uni did open, so students need to be responsible members of the community” are statements that can and should coexist. institutional failure does not absolve you of personal accountability – it makes it all the more important. our institutions fail us all the time and we always have to show up for each other. this is no different, so do what your colleges couldn’t do and keep your community safe.
